Defender Toyota engine conversion. Hi. I have a 1999 Defender 90 with the 2.8i BMW engine. As mentioned in my "intro" I've picked up some engine troubles. It started with faulty ECU thus i changed over to an aftermarket ECU as finding the original was not easy and quite expensive for those i did find, After the installation and tuning of Therefore, I would recommend using a Range Rover or Discovery LT77/R380 gearbox and bellhousing, which is longer, and this will shunt the engine forward into the position it is mounted in RR/Disco/Defender V8 models.
