A lot of the Mk4 electrical glitches can be 'cured' simply by disconnecting the battery and waiting about 10 - 15 minutes or so before reconnecting. Incidently, if you have locked the car, but then want something from the boot, just press the unlock boot button twice and it will disable the alarm, release the boot but keep the doors locked.
