You gain mastery points for completing specific feats, much like achievements. They are also account-bound, meaning you can't complete each feat multiple times. Also, mastery points are only used to unlock the mastery tracks; beyond that, exp is used to actually fill them. About the same feeling as titles, for me.

So far I've used two methods: Look for a guild under their name. Look for a class icon above their portrait. Method one doesn't always work, however, because not everyone is in a guild.
